In my article on GPT assistants, I have already described in detail what GPTs are, what functions they can have and how you can create your own GPT assistant. In this article I discuss the question of why it makes sense to create your own My-GPT and in which situations you can refrain from creating your own GPT.
What are GPT assistants?
To recap, here are a few basics: GPT assistants, developed by OpenAI, stand for “Generative Pre-trained Transformer”. This term stands for an artificial intelligence (AI) that is trained to understand and simulate human speech. They learn from a huge amount of text data to recognize patterns and contexts that enable them to respond to a variety of queries. From answering simple questions to creating complex texts, GPT assistants can handle an impressive range of linguistic tasks. It’s not just about mechanically reproducing information; these assistants are also able to generate creative and even humorous responses.
One particularly exciting aspect of GPT technology is the recently introduced option for users to develop their own customized GPT Assistant. These are called “My-GPTs” and allow you to create a customized assistant on OpenAI’s ChatGPT platform. What makes it so special? Unlike standardized AI models designed for a broad audience, My-GPTs offer the freedom to customize the AI to your specific needs and preferences. Whether for specific professional tasks, educational purposes or simply for entertainment – you have control over the training data and the configuration of your assistant. This opens up a new world of personalization in AI that goes far beyond previous generic applications.
It is important to note that My-GPT can only be developed and used with a ChatGPT Plus account or with access to the API.
The areas of application of My-GPT Assistants
My research into existing My-GPTs has shown that there are generally three main target groups or possible applications for My-GPTs.
GPT Assistants for our own customers
Similar to my AI Assistant, you can use ChatGPT to create a GPT Assistant, which then answers your customers’ and potential customers’ queries as an intelligent chatbot. I was even able to make my GPT Assistant available via WhatsApp using a little trick.
A similar example is the FAQ Assistant from AlpineAI, which answers the most frequent customer queries about the SwissGPT products.
GPT Assistants for yourself
Of course, you can also create very individual GPTs, which are mainly available to you as assistants. These assistants are then tailored specifically to your use case and you can even add additional functions to the assistants.
GPT Assistants for general use cases
Probably the most widespread application of GPT Assistants are Assistants that cover a wide range of use cases and are therefore available to a large number of users at the same time. OpenAI had originally announced the GPT Store here, but this does not yet exist. However, there are already a large number of third-party providers that offer databases with useful GPT assistants. The applications are very broad. For example, there is the Greenwatch Assistant, which is designed to help recognize greenwashing in advertising messages.
Or the Working Cafe Finder, which helps you find a suitable cafe for co-working in any city.
When do I need a GPT Assistant?
Now the question arises, do you need a GPT Assistant at all or can you continue to use ChatGPT?
For the first application “a specific GPT Assistant for your customers”, it is essential to create an individual chatbot with the GPT platform. You can find out how this works in my article on the GPT Assistants. You can also find some useful tips on how to make the chatbot available to your target groups on my AI Assistant page.
If you notice that you use ChatGPT over and over again for the same specific use case, then it probably makes sense to create your own GPT Assistant. You can then enrich this with your “own” functions.
GPT, which are created for the masses, are usually more likely to be classified in the context of content marketing. The Greenwishing Association deliberately created the Greenwatch Assistant to generate more reach for its own association in addition to general tips on greenwashing.
How do I publicize GPTs?
If you decide to create a GPT Assistant as part of your content marketing strategy, it is important that this Assistant is also known. I have therefore deliberately had my own Working Cafe Finder listed in the following directories. As a result, it is gaining in reach and is being used more frequently.

https://gptsfinder.net/
https://gptsdex.com/

Of course, you should also use your own communication channels to publicize the GPT Assistant.
And now?
Would you like to find out more about GPT Assistants or would you like to implement one yourself? I will be happy to answer any further questions you may have and will also be at your disposal for the implementation and publication of your GPT Assistant.
I would also like to invite you to test my own GPT Assistant on WhatsApp.
