Privacy-friendly Custom GPTs: SwissGPT as an alternative

*This post was created with a self-made CustomGPT based on Sophie’s latest YouTube video. You can find the link to the video at the end of this article.

If you’ve followed my YouTube channel or listened to any of my recent talks, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of custom GPTs. These customized AI assistants make it possible to automate specific tasks efficiently. However, one aspect that is often neglected is data protection. In this article, I would like to introduce you to SwissGPT from Alpine AI – a privacy-friendly alternative to OpenAI’s Custom GPTs.

What are custom GPTs?

Custom GPTs are customized versions of ChatGPT that can be used for recurring tasks. A special system prompt can be defined that directs the responses in a desired direction. The problem: The data protection conditions are identical to those of ChatGPT. This means that all uploaded data is stored and processed by OpenAI.

SwissGPT: Privacy-friendly assistants

With SwissGPT, Alpine AI offers an alternative that makes it possible to create AI assistants without having to worry about data protection. The user interface is very similar to ChatGPT, but there are some key differences:

  • Assistant function: You can create your own assistants to take on specific tasks.
  • More file uploads: While OpenAI assistants can currently only store up to 20 files, SwissGPT allows up to 50 files.
  • Higher data protection: SwissGPT relies on servers in Switzerland and complies with strict data protection guidelines.

Practical example: The Video2Blog Assistant

I used SwissGPT to build my own assistant – the Video2Blog Assistant. This automatically converts YouTube transcripts into blog posts. The process was very simple:

  1. Creation of a new wizard: In SwissGPT I have created a new wizard with the description “Create blog posts from video scripts”.
  2. Detailed instructions: I gave the assistant precise instructions on how the blog posts should be structured – including word choice, sentence structure and formatting.
  3. Test run with a YouTube transcript: I inserted an unedited transcript and SwissGPT used it to create a structured blog post.

When is SwissGPT worthwhile?

If you process sensitive data – for example in internal logs or customer communication – then data protection is essential. SwissGPT offers an interesting solution that combines security with the advantages of custom GPTs. For everyday tasks where data protection is less relevant, OpenAI’s solution remains an alternative.

Conclusion

SwissGPT shows that it is possible to use personalized AI assistants with higher data protection standards. So if you want to build your own assistants without compromising on data protection, SwissGPT is definitely worth a look.
