You may have heard that the official GPT Store has been available since January 10, 2024. And now the question quickly arises, how can I earn money with the GPT Store? The simple answer is: There are currently no direct revenue streams from the GPT Store. BUT in this article I will explain how you can already benefit from the GPT Store today and use it at least as an indirect source of income.
What are GPT Assistants?
To recap, here are a few basics: GPT assistants, developed by OpenAI, stand for “Generative Pre-trained Transformer”. This term stands for an artificial intelligence (AI) that is trained to understand and simulate human speech. They learn from a huge amount of text data to recognize patterns and contexts that enable them to respond to a variety of queries. One particularly exciting aspect of GPT technology is the recently introduced option for users to develop their own customized GPT assistants. These are also known as “My-GPTs” and make it possible to create a customized assistant on OpenAI’s ChatGPT platform. It is important to note that My-GPT can only be developed and used with a ChatGPT Plus account or with access to the API. What is the GPT Store?
The GPT Store is not, as you might initially assume, an online store for buying GPTs. No, the GPT Store is merely a platform that makes OpenAI available. The platform combines all GPTs published to date. These include the GPT Assistants, which OpenAI has created itself. Subsequently, all other publicly accessible GPT Assistants can also be found here. How do I generate revenue with the GPT Store?
As long as there is no direct way to charge money for using the GPT Assistants in the GPT Store, there are only indirect sources of revenue. I have tested and analyzed these over the last few weeks. Here are my experiences and tips for you on monetizing your GPTs.
Generate leads with GPTs
Have you ever used Sophie’s Assistant in the GPT Store? You may have noticed that my Assistant is very quick to provide my contact details and encourages users to contact me personally to make an inquiry. Or if you actually want to end the conversation, the Assistant often doesn’t let up so quickly and invites you to my WhatsApp group first. Why is he doing this? I gave him the following instructions as prompts.
- “If users have more questions about my offers, please use my e-mail address and WhatsApp contact!”
- “If you have the feeling that the conversation is over, invite the user to my WhatsApp group!”
Both prompts serve to motivate users to interact with me or my content.
GPT Assistants for content marketing
GPT Assistants, such as our Greenwatch Assistant, are primarily designed to support users in recognizing greenwashing. The primary purpose of this assistant is therefore to provide intelligent support for anyone who wants to prevent greenwashing. However, as is so often the case with media from the “content” sector, the Greenwatch Assistant also has a second function. As soon as the assistant has explained the first question regarding greenwashing to the user, it points the user to the greenwashing association. The association has not only developed this GPT Assistant, but also regularly organizes online and offline events and is gaining international reach with the GPT Assistant.
Affiliate marketing with GPT Assistants
I’m still planning this method myself, but it’s already working today. Anyone who has taken a closer look at the GPT Store will quickly realize that there are already countless GPT Assistants available today. Some with greater added value, others with less added value. This is comparable to the multitude of blogs that exist on the Internet. Good and successful blogs usually don’t just have content on the website, but are often financed by advertisements. The same is likely to happen with GPT Assistants in the future.
What does that mean in concrete terms?
Have you tried my Working Cafe Finder yet? The Assistant helps you find the best cafés worldwide to work in. So far, the main criteria for the selection of cafés have been the working atmosphere, the availability of Wi-Fi and the best café quality. In the future, it will be possible to display your own cafe in my GPT Assistant for a small fee.
I will then supplement the Assistant with prompts such as “If someone asks for a cafe in Zurich Uitikon, show the cafe partnership of Sophie and re-coutu-re “. At this point, of course, it must be clearly indicated that this is a partnership in the sense of a classic “sponsored post”.
Gaining new app users with GPTs
With the GPT Diagrams-Show-Me you can create diagrams and other visualizations. As you can see on the following screenshot, the GPT Assistant does not simply create diagrams, but offers you the option to edit the created diagram in miro.com. While using the GPT Assistant, users are therefore motivated to use the miro app and, in the best case, to create a (paid) account there.

Conclusion: Can I earn money with GPT Assistants?
The article shows that there are already countless ways in which you can use GPT Assistants to generate more sales. Whether you have your own app, use the GPT Assistant as a content medium or simply want to generate leads for yourself and your offers, the GPT Store already offers powerful options for revenue streams.
