What is Generative AI?
Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence (AI) that is capable of creating something new, such as text, images, music or videos. Unlike other types of AI, which are designed to analyze existing information or perform specific tasks, generative AI attempts to create something new based on what it has learned from a large amount of data. It uses patterns and structures in the data to generate new content that is similar to what it has seen before. It is, so to speak, a creative machine that is able to think and create in a way that was previously only possible for humans. Generative AI is used in many areas, from art and entertainment to research and development.
What are Generative AI technologies?
Generative AI technologies are programs, applications or apps that use the methods of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) to offer their users added value. ChatGPT is currently one of the best-known AI technologies. Thanks to the use of generative AI, modern AI technologies are able to produce new content that did not previously exist in this form. AI technologies support their users in a completely new way and are capable of scaling more and more human processes. ChatGPT is very generic and not very focused on individual use cases. However, there are many other generative AI technologies that focus on very specific applications such as podcast creation, meeting notes processing, research, image creation and many more.
Why are generative AI technologies becoming increasingly important?
Generative AI technologies and AI tools are revolutionizing almost everyone’s day-to-day work. They help to optimize work processes, understand customers better and design campaigns more effectively. Many AI tools have precisely the capabilities that we sometimes lack. AI technology can help me to create images if I am not artistically talented myself. Or the Generative AI tool can carry out research for me and thus make my work more efficient.
What can you expect in the overview of Generative AI technologies?
My overview of Generative AI technologies shows almost 30 AI tools for different applications. I have tested all the tools myself and I even use most of them regularly. The overview shows a wide range of applications. I usually only show one or two Generative AI tools per use case or application. This means you don’t have to choose between countless tools for each application.
The majority of Generative AI tools offer free versions. However, the free versions are usually very limited and pro licenses costing around EUR 20 are usually required for real use.
In addition to the general functions and prices, I also provide information on data protection and the processing of the data entered.
Who is the target group of the Generative AI Tool Overview?
The Generative AI tool overview is aimed at anyone who wants to use Generative AI to make their day-to-day work easier or even take it to the next level. AI tools not only make our day-to-day work more efficient, they also bring with them skills that we don’t even have ourselves.
Prompts are becoming increasingly important when it comes to the successful interaction and use of AI systems. They are the primary means by which we interact with AI models, from simple chatbots to complex systems capable of generating text, creating images or even composing music. In an environment where interaction with AI is becoming increasingly intuitive, prompts play a crucial role in shaping these experiences. They enable us to control and adapt the enormous processing power of AI systems such as ChatGPT or SwissGPT so that individual, creative and, above all, useful results can be achieved. The better you master the skills of the prompt, the more successful your “cooperation” with AI tools will be.

How do I find the right Generative AI technology for me?
The AI technology overview on this page offers all interested parties an initial insight into almost 30 possible generative AI tools. All AI technologies and tools have been tested by myself and described for you.
Otherwise, I recommend you take the following tips to heart:
1. use rankings and comparison lists from sources you know
AI technology overviews or rankings are a good start to finding the right AI technology. However, the number of rankings and overview lists also continues to rise daily. I therefore recommend using an AI overview where we already know the author or where we know that the source matches our values and requirements.
2. uses trial licenses
Most AI technologies offer trial subscriptions that are either completely free or can be canceled after 30 days. Use these types of subscriptions to avoid tying yourself to too many new tools from the outset. Even if they are often only small amounts, they quickly add up.
3. define your own processes and goals
Advertising and the internet often tempt people to use new AI technologies and take out expensive subscriptions. However, it is crucial that we first clearly define our expectations of AI technology in order to derive specific requirements. The search for suitable AI technology should only begin once these requirements have been precisely defined.
Unless, of course, the aim is to identify AI technologies that not only increase the efficiency of current work processes, but also take on tasks that were previously not part of your activities in this form.
4. join the AI Masterclass
You can find more tips on how to select suitable technologies and tools or how to decide whether it’s worth investing in a Pro version in my article on the AI masterclass and AI tools. Or if you would prefer to try out tools directly and perhaps even do so in a group with like-minded people, there are regular AI masterclasses in Berlin and Zurich. Various tools will be presented over 2 days and you can try them out for yourself and share your experiences with the other participants (max. 15).
How do I ensure responsible use of AI technologies?
AI technologies are having an increasing impact on many aspects of our lives, from the world of work to personal decisions. Artificial intelligence can analyze large amounts of data and make decisions that have far-reaching consequences. It is therefore crucial that we ourselves and those around us use these technologies ethically in order to avoid discrimination, privacy violations and other negative effects on people and companies.
In short, you can achieve a mindful and responsible use of AI technologies such as ChatGPT if you take the following 5 tips to heart:
1. get to know the creator of AI technology
2. question every statement of Generative AI before you continue to use it
3. observe data protection and use secure solutions
4. separates tasks that are intended for artificial intelligence from those that are reserved for humans
5. share your experiences with your fellow human beings
You can find a comprehensive explanation of the individual tips in my blog post 5 tips for the mindful and responsible use of AI technologies.

Pro tip: It’s all about the right AI technology mix
If you regularly use AI technologies, you will quickly realize that there is not one AI technology for all applications. Instead, there are a large number of specific AI technologies for individual areas of application. The AI technology mix is no longer about the use of individual AI technologies, but about the ability to skillfully combine different AI technologies.
In her webinar on AI tools in marketing and customer service, AI expert Prof. Dr. Claudia Bünte combines Perplexity (for research), ChatGPT (for text and product development) and Leonardo AI (for image generation). Perplexity can search Internet resources and provides specific search results for academic and mathematical topics. The sources can be checked directly. ChatGPT for product ideas, because the AI tool can be used in specific roles, such as product developer or graphic designer, to deliver creative and specific results. Temperatures (measure for creativity) can be set. Leonardo AI is a free tool for image generation and offers daily tokens for use. It can create images in different styles and sizes.
You can read more about the AI technology mix and how you can combine humans and AI technologies responsibly in one of my other articles.
