Learn a language on the side with Claude – without losing time in your day-to-day work

*Thisarticle is based on a YouTube video by Sophie Hundertmark, an expert in the use of artificial intelligence with a focus on chatbots and strategic AI applications in companies and public institutions. Sophie is a researcher and lecturer at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and is doing her doctorate in Conversational AI at the University of Fribourg. The blog text was created using a custom GPT model that was trained on Sophie’s video content, language style and expertise. The result is well-founded, up-to-date articles based on Sophie Hundertmark‘s own expertise.

Many people would like to learn a new language, but fail because of one problem: lack of time. Between meetings, projects and everyday tasks, there is often little room for regular learning. But what if you could integrate language learning directly into your everyday working life?

AI tools like Claude offer an interesting opportunity to do just that. Instead of scheduling extra study time, you can use your daily work to build up your language skills at the same time.

The challenge: learning despite a busy schedule

Many of us know the problem. The motivation to learn a new language is there, but the time is lacking. Language courses, learning apps and vocabulary training quickly fade into the background, especially for working people.

One solution may be to integrate the language directly into existing work processes. This means that learning does not become an additional task, but part of the normal working day.

Set up your own AI project as a language trainer

This concept is particularly easy to implement with Claude. A separate project is being created for this purpose, which is specifically designed for language training.

You can store an individual system prompt within the project. This defines the rules according to which Claude is to work in future.

One possible approach could look like this:

  • You communicate exclusively in the target language, for example Italian.
  • Claude will first correct your entries.
  • The corrections are explained so that you can learn from your mistakes.
  • Claude will then answer your question.
  • Working documents and results will continue to be created in your preferred working language, for example in German.

This creates a combination of language training and productive work.

How the workflow works in practice

Let’s assume you want to create a presentation for a project.

Instead of formulating the request in German, you write it in Italian in Claude. The following happens after sending:

  1. Claude first corrects your Italian entry.
  2. Errors are explained and suggestions for improvement are made.
  3. Claude then works on the actual task.
  4. The desired work result is still created in German.

So you not only get the presentation you want, but also learn something new with every interaction.

Why this approach is particularly effective

The biggest advantage is that no additional learning time is required. Every request to the AI automatically becomes a small language exercise.

This results in several positive effects:

  • Continuous learning in everyday life
  • Direct use of language in real-life situations
  • Immediate feedback on errors
  • Greater motivation through visible progress
  • No interruption to the actual work

What is particularly interesting is that productivity hardly suffers at all. The corrections are made automatically and provide an additional learning effect without significantly affecting the workflow.

Not only suitable for Italian

The concept can of course be transferred to any language.

Whether English, French, Spanish or another language – the basic workflow remains the same. You define the desired learning language in the system prompt and adapt the instructions accordingly.

The method is also suitable for other learning objectives. Possible examples are

  • Improving grammar
  • Expansion of the specialist vocabulary
  • Training of writing styles
  • Learning new subject areas
  • Development of better prompting skills

AI as a personal learning companion

Modern AI tools are increasingly developing into individual learning assistants. Instead of just creating content, they can specifically help to build knowledge and develop skills.

The combination of productive work and continuous learning creates a particularly efficient approach: you complete your tasks as usual and expand your knowledge at the same time.

Especially for people with little time, this can be one of the most effective ways to learn a new language in the long term.

Conclusion

If you want to learn a new language, you don’t necessarily have to reserve extra hours in your calendar. With an individually configured Claude project, language training can be integrated directly into everyday working life.

By formulating your requests in the target language, receiving corrections and at the same time continuing to generate productive work results, a learning process is created that works almost without any loss of time.

AI thus becomes not only a work tool, but also a personal language trainer that supports you in every interaction that really counts.
