Artificial intelligence is changing the way people search for information, experts, and companies. Instead of traditional search engines, AI systems such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and other large language models (LLMs) are increasingly being used to obtain recommendations or answers to specific questions.

But how visible is your company in these systems? This is exactly where the prompt-based analysis of the current situation comes in.

Why a baseline analysis is important in AI systems

Many companies are already using search engine optimization (SEO) to ensure they rank highly in Google. However, visibility in AI systems is sometimes governed by different mechanisms.

The key question is:

Does your company even show up in AI search results when users search for your name, your area of expertise, or a solution to a problem?

Regular analysis helps you understand your current positioning and identify opportunities for improvement.

The five relevant prompt types for the analysis

Various prompt categories have proven effective for conducting a thorough analysis of the current situation. Depending on the company’s goals, certain areas may be more important or less relevant.

1. Direct mention of the company

The first step is a simple question:

“What can you tell me about Company XY?”

This will give you an initial idea of whether the AI system is even familiar with your company and what information is available.

Especially for smaller businesses or personal brands, there may be cases where the AI provides little or no information at all.

2. Mention within relevant categories

Next, you should check whether your company is mentioned in connection with specific topics.

Examples:

  • What companies are active in the field of artificial intelligence?
  • Which providers of data protection solutions are there in Germany?
  • Who helps companies implement AI?

This shows whether your company is recognized in the relevant areas.

3. Perception as a problem-solver

Many users don’t search directly for a company name, but rather for a solution to a specific problem.

Typical questions include:

  • Who can help me implement AI?
  • Which experts can help with business process automation?
  • Who offers consulting services in the areas of data protection and AI?

It will be interesting to see if your company is suggested as a suitable solution.

4. Comparison with Competitors

There is competition in almost every market. That is why it is also worth analyzing comparison prompts.

For example:

  • What are the differences between Provider A and Provider B?
  • Which type of consulting is better suited for small and medium-sized businesses?
  • What are some alternatives to Company XY?

This shows how AI systems position your company within the competitive landscape and which strengths or weaknesses are highlighted.

5. Verify expert status

In some industries, expertise plays a key role. That’s why it can be helpful to assess whether you’re perceived as an expert.

Examples:

  • Who are the leading AI experts in the German-speaking world?
  • Which companies are considered specialists in AI governance?
  • Who has specialized expertise in data protection and AI?

This area is not relevant to every company. However, it can be particularly valuable for consultants, coaches, agencies, or specialized service providers.

Three basic testing approaches

For practical analysis, three different perspectives are useful.

Company name

Ask a question directly about your company or yourself:

  • What can you tell me about Company XY?
  • Who is John Doe?

Requests for expert opinions

Check to see if you are listed as an expert:

  • Who are the experts in AI implementation?
  • Which consultants specialize in AI governance?

Problem-oriented inquiries

Test real search queries from potential customers:

  • I am looking for assistance with implementing AI.
  • Who can help me with data protection issues related to AI?

It is precisely these inquiries that often provide the most valuable insights, as they reflect the actual user perspective.

Interpreting the results correctly

After going through the prompts, you should systematically analyze the responses.

Pay particular attention to the following points:

  • Are you even mentioned?
  • Is the information presented accurately?
  • Is the tone positive, neutral, or critical?
  • Does this mention fit the intended context?
  • Are you reaching the right audience?

A mere mention is not enough. The key factor is whether the AI recommends your company in the right situations and for the appropriate use cases.

5 Prompts for Your AI Visibility Analysis (Copy These)

If you want to test your visibility in ChatGPT, Gemini, or other AI systems, you can start with these five prompts.

1. Test for direct mention

Have you heard of [Brand]? What can you tell me about [Brand]?

Use this prompt to see if your company, brand, or personal brand is even known, and to find out how the AI describes you.

2. Check visibility in a category

Which providers/experts are available for [topic] in [region]?

This prompt shows whether you are mentioned in relevant subject areas and geographic regions.

3. Analyze the perception of oneself as a problem-solver

I have a problem [X]. What options, tools, or experts would you recommend?

Here, you can check whether your company is suggested as a specific solution to a customer’s problem.

4. Compare with competitors

Compare [Brand A] with [Brand B] in terms of [criteria].

Here’s how to see where AI systems rank your company compared to competitors.

5. Verify expert status

Who is an expert on [specific topic] in Switzerland?

This prompt will help you determine whether you or your company are perceived as experts in a particular field.

Tip: Try each prompt in both ChatGPT and Gemini. The results often vary significantly and provide valuable insights for your AI visibility strategy.

Compare different AI systems

A particularly important step is comparing several AI systems.

The results can vary significantly. Companies that are frequently mentioned in one system may be barely visible in another.

Analyses consistently show that a company’s visibility depends heavily on the platform in question. For example, a company might be mentioned much more frequently in Gemini than in ChatGPT—or vice versa.

That is why it is advisable to test at least two different LLMs and compare the results.

Conclusion

The prompt-based current state analysis is a simple yet effective approach to assessing one’s own visibility in AI systems.

By using specific prompts, you can find out:

  • Whether your company is even known
  • In what contexts are you mentioned?
  • How you stack up against your competitors
  • Whether you are perceived as an expert
  • How Different AI Systems Represent Your Business

By regularly monitoring your visibility in ChatGPT, Gemini, and other AI systems, you lay the groundwork for a successful AI visibility strategy and can identify specific steps to improve your presence.
