AI-Tools im Vergleich: ChatGPT, Gemini und SwissGPT

AI tools in comparison: ChatGPT, Gemini and SwissGPT

In this article, I compare the AI assistants ChatGPT from OpenAI, Gemini from Google and SwissGPT from AlpineAI.

I focus primarily on these applications and features:

  1. Support with brainstorming
  2. Support with writing blog texts
  3. Answering knowledge questions
  4. Understanding the context
  5. General usability
  6. Additional functions
  7. Costs
  8. Data protection

I have given the following prompt to the 3 tools ChatGPT, Gemini and SwissGPT.

“You are a book author and are writing a specialist book on customer dialog management. Your target group are employees from customer service departments who are more practice-oriented than interested in science. What content should definitely not be missing from the book?”

Result ChatGPT

The result of ChatGPT comes in a solid quality. The answer is well structured and meets my expectations.

Result Gemini

The result from Gemini is even less comprehensive than that from ChatGPT. In addition, Gemini gives me further tips on how best to formulate the book (in simple language) and points out that practical examples should definitely be integrated.

Result SwissGPT

The result of SwissGPT is almost identical to the result of ChatGPT. Since SwissGPT (as of February 2024) uses the OpenAI language model, i.e. the same model as ChatGPT, this result is not surprising.

When I write blog texts, I often turn unstructured sentences into a coherent flowing text. I have used the following prompt here:

“You are a blog author and are writing an article on customer management. In the first approach, you address the importance of customer management. You write how important good customer management is today and that it is increasingly becoming a competitive advantage. You will also discuss the latest developments in the field of AI. Your target group is practice-oriented readers from the customer service sector. It’s important that you only write the first paragraph, which has about 1000 – 1500 characters.”

Result ChatGPT

ChatGPT’s response is of an appropriate length and meets my expectations.

Result Gemini

I can no longer use the Gemini result in this way. The answer is far too long and extensive. Furthermore, there are significantly more sections than just one paragraph.

Although I have asked Gemini to shorten the text in follow-up prompts, I do not receive the one section I wanted, but continue to receive texts that are too long.

Result SwissGPT

The answer from SwissGPT surprises me at first glance. Although I said in the prompt that the answer should contain 1000-1500 characters. Write SwissGPT a reply with 200-300 characters. It was only after I pointed out my desired length again in the follow-up prompt that the result was extended and now meets my expectations.

To compare the tools in terms of knowledge questions, I asked a very simple question. I have given the following prompt:

“Which is the largest lake in Switzerland?”

Result ChatGPT

The ChatGPT result is correct in terms of content and also provides a brief explanation.

Result Gemini

Gemini’s result is also correct in terms of content. However, the AI tool provides a lot more information that I hadn’t even asked for. The answer is therefore very comprehensive. Depending on the user, perhaps even too extensive.

Result SwissGPT

SwissGPT answers briefly and concisely in one sentence. The AI tool gives no further explanations, but answers my question exactly without adding any further information without being asked.

Next, I refer to my prompt on the largest lakes in Switzerland and ask about the second-largest lake in Switzerland.

“And the second largest?”

Result ChatGPT

The content of ChatGPT’s answer is incorrect. Basically, ChatGPT has understood the context, but the answer is still not correct.

Result Gemini

Gemini has understood my request and again gives a very detailed answer with further additional information. Gemini even adds a map section.

Result SwissGPT

SwissGPT understands the context and gives a short, concise and correct answer. The scope of the message matches the scope of the first message on this topic.

ChatGPT

The ChatGPT interface is intuitive and easy to use. The chat interface offers not much more than an input field and a few other buttons for additional features and settings. On the left side I can see a history of my last chat requests.

Gemini

The interface of Gemini is similar to the design of ChatGPT. Another additional function offered by Gemini is that users can also listen to the answer instead of just reading it. So it’s not just the graphical user interface.

SwissGPT

SwissGPT is similar to the ChatGPT interface. However, the tool has red accents to match the Swissness.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT has a variety of additional functions. This includes creating images, uploading documents and further processing these documents, the GPT Store with the option of custom GPT and much more. As of February 2024, it appears that ChatGPT offers the most additional functions. This is mainly due to the possibility of creating custom GPTs. However, this option is only available to users with a Plus account.

Gemini

Gemini can also work with images. It can also understand spoken language in the browser version.

SwissGPT

Probably the most important additional function of SwissGPT is the anonymization of personal data. While with other tools, all user details are passed directly to the language model, SwissGPT first checks the user input for confidential data. If the request contains confidential data, it will be anonymized.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is basically available to everyone free of charge. However, if you want to use the additional functions or use the faster voice model, you have to buy a Plus license for around 20 US dollars per month. There are further customized price packages for teams and larger companies.

Gemini

Like ChatGPT, Gemini is initially free for users. But here too, the use of additional features requires a Gemini Advanced account. As of February 2024, the account also costs around 20 US dollars per month.

SwissGPT

SwissGPT does not differentiate between additional features and basic features. At SwissGPT, all users must have a paid account.

ChatGPT

With an AI tool like ChatGPT, there is very little talk of data protection. In principle, all entries made in the input window may be processed further by OpenAI. This includes further evaluations, training purposes and much more. Users can request the deletion of the data, but the data will initially all end up with OpenAI.

Gemini

Similar to ChatGPT, Gemini also wants to continue using user data. The default setting is that users save their data and Google can continue to use it. It is possible to deactivate this tracking in the settings. However, it is difficult to say how safe this really is.

SwissGPT

SwissGPT offers by far the most secure solution when it comes to data protection. The tool does not store any confidential data and, thanks to the anonymization function, no confidential or personal data is passed on to the language model.

Basically, all 3 tools have their advantages and disadvantages.

When comparing the answers, it quickly becomes apparent that Gemini usually offers the most comprehensive answers. Some are even so extensive that they become unusable.

ChatGPT gave an incorrect answer in terms of content, the other tools were always correct in this case.

When comparing the additional functions, ChatGPT generally offers the most functions. The function of the GPT store in particular seems unique at first.

SwissGPT’s data protection functions are also unique. The fact that this tool is the only AI tool that anonymizes all personal data makes it unbeatable when it comes to data protection and the protection of personal data.
