The way people search for information is changing fundamentally. More and more questions – whether about service providers, products or expert knowledge – are no longer asked in Google, but directly in ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini.
These AI systems provide a direct answer. No list of links. No ten results to click through. An answer – with one, two, three names mentioned. And all others simply do not exist for this person.
The good news is that those who act now have a real head start. Niche providers, local experts and specialized SMEs in particular can achieve above-average visibility in AI systems – if they know how.
AI visibility means that when someone asks a relevant question in ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini, your brand, company or name will be mentioned in the answer. It sounds simple – but it is fundamentally different from what you may know from classic search engine optimization.
Large language models such as ChatGPT have been trained on enormous amounts of text. What was mentioned frequently, consistently and in clear contexts is “stored” in the model. Who appears there is mentioned in answers. Those who do not appear – or are described inconsistently – remain invisible.
Google is all about appearing as high up as possible on a results page. AI systems are all about appearing in the answer itself – or not. There is no ranking, no page 2. Either you get mentioned, or someone else will.
Three factors come into play: the content on your website and in external sources, the technical structure of your website (how well AI crawlers can read it) and the consistency with which you communicate your expertise and your subject area.

The book Generative AI for Companies is a specialist book that is written primarily from the perspective of a business economist. It mainly deals with economic and interpersonal aspects of the use of Generative AI. Nevertheless, the textbook on Generative AI in the company also includes a chapter on the technical functioning of artificial intelligence, large language models and generative AI. This basic knowledge is important in order to be able to properly assess the extent of the new technological developments.
To make the reader even more excited about the use of Generative AI, a large number of Generative AI tools are presented at the end of the 200-page reference book and their possible applications are described. Readers also receive information on the pricing and subscription model of the individual tools.
